It’s A Girl- Movie

It’s A Girl-The Three Deadliest Words in the World’ is a documentary film by Evan Grae Davis based on gendercide. It took him six years to complete the film. The film released in 2012, and it was screened at Amnesty International's seventh Amnesty Reel Awareness Film Festival in Toronto, and the European Parliament in Brussels. The film was mainly shot in India and China.
According to the United Nation’s estimation, in the world, today there is no trace of around 200 million females, and most of the cases belong to India and China. In different countries, especially in China and India, many girls are killed in the womb or just after birth. And those who persist the infancy are either abandoned, or they are tortured and even get killed by their family members. Society snatches her right to live just because she is a girl or because she has given birth to a girl.Image result for its a girl movieDirector Evan Grae Davis started his journey aiming to create a documentary on sex trafficking and women exploitation. But the story of an Indian woman diverted his direction, and he ended up making this documentary on gendercide. The film begins with that same Indian woman who is narrating her story of how she has strangulated her eight newborns to death just because they were girls.
In his film Davis talked to many social workers, activists, to the victim who has to bear brutal torture and to the brave mother who fought to save her girls; and he realised that though poverty is one of the primary reasons that is not the only one. So he tried to dig up the root of such viciousness towards the female in the society. The film bared those years old deep-rooted cultural practices that are entrenched in the society that approves the existence of male to be more important than the females; like because parents will have to pay a heavy dowry while getting their daughters married while their son will earn a good amount as dowry just by marrying. Besides that, some government policies also play the role of villain in this matter like the one-child policy in China. This documentary film accounted for the real-life stories of those females who have been the victim of gendercide.
