To all the Eoin Colfer fans out there! Rejoice!! Walt Disney Studios is bringing to life the criminal mastermind of the century, none other than the redoubtable, Artemis Fowl. Kenneth Branagh is the director of this momentous film which is set to release on May 29, 2020.
Now for those who are unaware of this supervillain - Artemis Fowl is an eight-part novel by Eoin Colfer. The sci-fi genre series was published between 2001-2012 and has since gained worldwide popularity and a ginormous fan-base. The fans who are called by various names like the Fowlians or the Fowlers or simply fans, are super excited for the film and are already looking forward to a possible sequel.

The story revolves around the protagonist, Artemis Fowl II who is a school drop-out at the age of twelve. He comes from a family of criminals that has amassed wealth through dubious means. The storyline picks up with the sudden disappearance of Artemis’ father. After years of embezzlement and loot, Artemis’ mother has lost the sense of what is happening around her and has gone mad. Artemis enters the family business to rebuild his family’s fortunes and to save his father from a Russian mafia gang. His accomplices include his trusted manservant and dear friend Domovoi Butler and his sister Juliet Butler. The story continues as the trio engages in a series criminal activities. With guns blazing all around you, the effect in the theatre is going to be mind-blowing!
The film adaptation is special not only because it is produced by Walt Disney but also due to its celebrated ensemble. The cast includes big-name stars like Judi Dench, Ferida Shaw, Josh Gad, Nonso Anozie, and Lara McDonnell among many others. The film was initially set to release on August 9, 2019, but the release has been rescheduled to 2020.
The movie is a must-see family thriller. It has everything from comedy to action to keep the kids as well as the adults enraptured. The movie is sure to take us back to the good old days of fairies, monsters, and of course super villains!
