Diego Maradona Movie.

Diego Maradona” is an upcoming documentary movie made by veteran documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia who made the docu-drama “Amy” which went on to shatter box office records for documentary movies becoming the highest-grossing documentary movie and Kapadia won an Academy Award and a Grammy award for his documentary. “Diego Maradona” chronicles the life of the eponymous footballer who gained god-like status in Argentina and gained notoriety for being the “bad boy” of football, along with his long successful career. Mardonna despite his “bad boy” stints, was known to be somewhat shy with the media when it came to revealing his personal life, but director Asif Kapadia managed to gain access to the legend himself and shot this movie combining over 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from Maradonna’s earlier years.

Maradonna’s official personal life documentary was supposed to be made in the 80s and his one-time agent Jorge Cyterszpiler was tasked with the job, but the documentary didn’t come into fruition due to personal reasons. Along with his long and illustrious football career, the documentary also chronicles Maradonna’s alleged involvement with the Neapolitan Mafia – The Camorra family. A major part of the documentary is structured around Maradonna’s stint with SSC Napoli in Italy in the 80s. Brazilian Golden Globe-nominated film score composer Antonio Alves Pinto provides the background score for this documentary. The movie premiered on 19th May 2019 at the Cannes film festival where it was screened out-of-competition, but the former Argentinian captain missed the premiere due to a shoulder injury. England football team’s former goalkeeper Peter Shilton said that he and his former teammates had declined to attend the UK premiere of the documentary held on 14th June 2019 as they were busy playing darts. Other prominent people from Maradona’s life featuring in the documentary include his ex-wife Claudia Villafane, his sister Maria Rosa Maradonna, his mistress Cristiana Senagra with whom he had a son Diego Maradona Jr. who also features in the documentary.
